Broad and Short Lighting
A broad face will look smaller by lighting the short side of the face. That's because we pay attention to the areas where light is, instead of the shadowed parts.

Take one or two strobes, a pockertwizzard triggerset for short flash duration, underexpose the available light by shortening the shutterspreed, invite some dynamic guys, a guarantee for some great pictures.
Great portraits with just one light
Photographer Jim Talkinton shows three different portraits taken with an umbrella and a strobe. He starts with a "classic" Rembrandt lighting. After that he plays with the light position to make two more beautiful portraits.
